Health Talk with dr. Grace: The Dangers of Belly Fat to Your Health

Jakarta, 17 March 2016 – Many employees are unaware that a sedentary lifestyle or sitting for too long can trigger abdominal fat accumulation. This condition not only affects self-confidence related to appearance, but also reduces stamina, makes the body easily tired, and disrupts work productivity.  The phenomenon of “pot belly” or abdominal fat accumulation is a common health issue among working-age individuals and poses a risk of triggering metabolic disorders and other serious diseases in the future.

In the Astra Life program, dr. Grace Judio-Kahl was present as a guest speaker to educate employees about the medical dangers behind belly fat. Belly fat consists of two main types, namely subcutaneous fat, which is located under the skin, and visceral fat, which attaches to internal organs such as the liver and gallbladder. Visceral fat is metabolically active and produces inflammatory substances in the body.

Chronic inflammation caused by visceral fat can increase the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disorders, and metabolic syndrome. Excessive waist circumference is an important indicator to watch out for as it reflects the accumulation of fat around vital organs.

During this health talk session, dr. Grace emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, controlling excessive sugar and fat intake, and incorporating physical activity into work hours. Reducing abdominal fat helps reduce inflammation and restore the body’s energy to optimal levels. This understanding is expected to encourage Astra Life employees to be more proactive in maintaining their body composition and metabolic health. With the right steps, employees can improve their work performance while building a long-term healthy lifestyle.
